These days, social media is an integral part of everyone’s life. Unless you’re one of those ‘underneath a rock’/’off the beaten path’ types, you’ll find yourself (sometimes unconsciously) checking your Facebook, Twitter and Instagram streams multiple times a day to stay up to date with the latest news, catch up with friends and – if we are brutally honest – procrastinate.
For the fashion industry, social media and Instagram in particular has become a vital tool. Designers cite the platform for inspiration and then use it in turn to inspire us as we head to stores to pick up items. Stateside, the Council of Fashion Designers of America just released Designers On Instagram: Fashion, a coffee table book with 250 images compiled from various designer feeds on the platform. It’s clearly a big deal.
While we don’t yet have a book to reveal, on our side of the pond Instagram stars carry just as much – and sometimes even more – weight. With this in mind, we’ve hand-picked seven London-based menswear influencers you should be following.
With an eye for tailoring and a knack for just the right angle, Zorpas has been turning up on must-follow lists for years.
The ‘Gentleman Blogger’ will take you on trips to other stylish destinations and through an enviable wardrobe of Missoni, Dsquared2 and Alberto Moretti, all with a few flicks of your thumb.
Having shot into public conscious with his 100 Beards book, Jonathan Daniel Pryce is a photographer by trade and inquisitive by nature.
His account combines published shoots for brands like Lab Series and Brooks Brothers with picture perfect vignettes of his native Scotland, as well as all of the fashion capitals he touches down in.
Abley’s designs aren’t the only thing that come laced with Disney references. When you add this designer to your feed you’re going to be getting an influx of Disney odes, selfies and behind the scenes snaps.
It can sometimes be difficult to keep up with Trapstar, a streetwear brand that stays fairly true to its scrappy, upstart beginnings.
What better way, then, than by following one of the men behind the label? You’ll be joining almost 19,000 other fans who regularly see images of Trapstar’s tees, trainers and other essentials interspersed with pictures of the celebs who wear them, like Rihanna.
For something a little comical, add Kit Neale to your Instagram follow list. Fun with animals, mood board cuttings and more all come through the flood of images.
And yes, the designer’s knack for print and colour is always on display.
If you want to keep up with one of the most stylish London Collections: Men ambassadors, David Gandy is a must-follow.
From the latest designs released by his footwear company David Preston Shoes, to a melange of his editorials and campaigns, it’s everything you ever needed to know about Gandy as well as quite a bit about quintessential British style.
If Gandy is the classic, Oliver Cheshire is the contemporary. Another Brit who spends the majority of his professional life in front of a camera, expect a passenger seat ride on what it’s like to be a modern-day working model and a child of the internet age.
Runway shots, ad campaigns and the occasional snap in the pub sums up what you’ll be double tapping on once he’s in your line-up.
