The news come just a month after it was confirmed that Delevingne had reportedly recorded her first single with Williams and this track suggests to be the project in which the duo had been working on for months.
The imperial fairytail clip will be premiered at the Metiers d’art Chanel show in Salzburg next week.
The film is titled Reincarnation and traces the history of the iconic Chanel jacket. For it, Lagerfeld imagined and episode of the life of Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel (played by actress Geraldine Chaplin). On her holidays in Austria during the fifties, she’s inspired by the jacket worn by her hotel’s lift operator (played by Williams). Pharrell is reincarnated as Franz Joseph I, the Emperor of Austria, while Delevingne plays his wife, Empress Elisabeth "Sisi" of Austria. Williams’ original track, which is inspired by Viennese music, plays in the background.
Delevingne, who has just landed her first Hollywood acting role, had wanted to sing for a long time. Lagerfeld told Dazed and Confused: "For her to start singing with Pharrell is not that bad, no?" To what she said: "I was so happy, I think I screamed down the phone at him."
Lagerfeld added: “It’s the perfect cast. Pharrell is a genius and Geraldine at her best in the role of Gabrielle Chanel in the year of her comeback.”
Reincarnation will be screened in Salzburg on 1 December, the night before the Paris-Salzburg 2014/15 Métiers d’art show. Chanel’s imperial couple: Cara Delevingne and Pharrell Williams
