Some of Valentino’s couture clients may be spitting feathers this morning. Why? Because of Katy Perry.
Grammys 2014: the best beauty moments
While ready-to-wear collections are making their way from catwalk to real life quicker than ever (see Anna Wintour, who regularly wears pieces just a matter of days after they have been officially presented at fashion week), the same can’t be said for couture. Those who can afford to purchase the gowns will expect to wait at least a couple of months for their made-to-measure number to land in their wardrobe. Unless they’re Katy Perry, that is.
The popstrel managed to bag herself a pricey number from Valentino’s spring/summer 2014 Haute Couture collection, which only took to the catwalk during Paris’ latest round of Haute Couture shows on Wednesday, January 22.

Though we’re not sure the gown was a complete success on Perry, there’s no denying how beautiful it is in itself, or indeed that Perry packs some serious sartorial punch. The singer must have been afforded a preview glance of the collection in order for her to have it made in time for last night’s ceremony. Jealous, us?
“Mr. Valentino knows me really well,” she said to one red carpet reporter, though the dress was actually designed by the fashion house’s creative duo Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli. Founder Valentino Garavani retired in 2008, though does still have a hand in dressing some of the brand’s more famous clientele.
But Ms Perry didn’t stop at one show-stopping Valentino couture gown – she scored herself another for the after party. That’s the life, isn’t it?
