Who would pay £10 million for a pair of shoes that retail at £220? That is undoubtedly the question you’ll ask yourself when you see a current ebay listing in which a pair of Kanye West-designed Nike trainers are selling for just that.

The design in question, called Air Yeezy II ‘Red October’, is the final, limited-edition creation from a fruitful collaboration the brand undertook with West. The rapper infamously severed ties with the sportswear giant last year, citing its inability to grant him royalties as his reason, but this design was already in the bag waiting to be released. Just like his previous two designs, this one reportedly sold out within 11 minutes of being released on Nike.com at 6pm yesterday, February 9.

Predictably, pairs soon began to appear on eBay with prices starting at a reasonable £150, but one particular listing has garnered more interest than others and currently stands at £10 million following 84 bids by 30 different bidders over a 10-hour period. The listing, by user b_toogood started at £200. With six days still to go on the listing, it’s possible the price will climb even more.

The seller, Brett Toogood, has stated via his Twitter page that if the record sale comes to fruition – enormous ebay bids often turn out to be fake – he will donate the amount to charity.
