Mick Jagger’s girlfriend L’Wren Scott found dead in apartment
Scott’s partner, Rolling Stones frontman Sir Mick Jagger, has released the following tribute on the rock group’s Facebook page:
“I am still struggling to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way. We spent many wonderful years together and had made a great life for ourselves. She had great presence and her talent was much admired, not least by me. I have been touched by the tributes that people have paid to her, and also the personal messages of support that I have received. I will never forget her, Mick”
The Rolling Stones are expected to cancel all the remaining dates of their tour in Australia.
It is thought that debt and depression could have played a part in Scott’s suicide. Her British-based fashion firm, LS Fashion Ltd, was running at a loss of £3.5 million. Accounts filed at Companies House in October show that the company’s deficit in 2012 had grown from £2.5 million the previous year, and had been running at a loss for several years before that. A total of £4.6 million was owed to creditors, with £1 million falling due for payment to within a year, though the company had £1.1 million worth of assets. Although Sir Mick’s wealth is estimated at £200 million, Scott is reported to have been “embarrassed” at her company’s losses.
The designer was discovered dead in her apartment in the Chelsea district of New York at 10.05am local time by her assistant. It is being reported that she was found hanging, and police authorities do not suspect foul play.

Scott founded her eponymous label in 2006 and quickly became a firm favourite with red carpet starlets such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Penelope Cruz and Amy Adams. Last year, she created a popular lower-priced collection for high-street shop Banana Republic.
She was forced to cancel her most recent show at February’s London Fashion Week owing to production delays that meant key pieces would not have been ready in time for the February 16 showcase for press and buyers.
