Calvin Klein is really banking on nostalgia with its latest ad and marketing campaigns.
Most recently, the brand launched its “My Calvins” social media campaign, which urged the public to upload images to Twitter and Instagram with visible Calvin Klein underwear waistbands, bringing to mind those famous Kate Moss and Marky Mark ads from the ’90s. And before that, of course, it brought back ’90s supe Christy Turlington for a stunning underwear campaign, 25 years after she first began modeling for the brand.
Well, they didn’t let Turlington go after that revealing shoot was unveiled last summer — at least, not entirely.
Here she is as the new/old face of Calvin Klein Eternity. To celebrate the fragrance’s 25th anniversary, the brand reissued a 1995 ad starring Turlington and Dutch model Mark Vanderloo. It’s the same photo, but with the clever caption, “Time can’t touch us. Celebrating 25 years.” The ad will break in May and June magazines.
The most disturbing part of this campaign is that if you told us this photo was shot yesterday, we would believe you, so immune is Christy Turlington to aging (and it’s not just photoshop — she looks just as flawless in person). And if you were wondering, time was a little less kind to Vanderloo, though he’s still very handsome.
