Following a stream of masthead changes, a spike in ad pages and rumors that EIC Cindi Leive was butting heads with Conde Nast artistic director Anna Wintour, Glamour has unveiled its new image, fronted by former Vogue cover girl Taylor Swift (in Rachel Comey!) and her Vogue-approved bangs (which, come to think of it, we haven’t seen in a while — is she growing them out?).
Leive tells WWD the issue is the “first true reflection of all the recent changes in the masthead,” which were orchestrated with advice from Wintour. Recent hires include Connie Anne Phillips (formerly of InStyle) as publisher, Paul Ritter (formerly of Elle) as creative director, Jillian Davidson (formerly of Vogue Australia) as fashion director and Laura Ferrara (formerly of Marie Claire) as senior editor at large. Ritter is responsible for the new overall look of the glossy.
Leive spoke positively about Wintour’s influence, at least in terms of her photography knowledge. “In terms of Glamour, it’s been like a great, really positive collaboration and, you know, obviously I avail myself of her counsel on things like photography and fashion because how lucky are we to have an artistic director who happens to know more about fashion than anyone in the universe?” she told the trade. “She understands the brand DNA of Glamour. She’s got vast experience and incredible wisdom about fashion photography.”
Leive added that, going forward, the magazine will focus more on fashion and designers.
The issue also gives readers a peek at how 1 World Trade, Conde Nast’s future home, is coming along. The skyscraper got its first editorial moment in Vogue‘s August issue, and it looks even closer to completion in a fashion spread shot by Sebastian Kim. Yep, the spread is so Vogue, it’s something Vogue literally already did.
