Following the death of designer L’Wren Scott, his partner of 10 years, on Monday, musician Mick Jagger has released a statement (and touching memoriam) on his website.

Beneath a black-and-white photo of Scott smiling on a blank background, it reads:

“I am still struggling to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way.

We spent many wonderful years together and had made a great life for ourselves.

She had great presence and her talent was much admired, not least by me.

I have been touched by the tributes that people have paid to her, and also the personal messages of support that I have received.

I will never forget her,
Mick

Jagger was on tour in Australia with his band, The Rolling Stones, when news of Scott’s apparent suicide in New York emerged. The band’s next show, scheduled to take place in Perth on Wednesday, has been cancelled.

Since Scott’s death was confirmed, there have been rumors that the two had split, which Jagger’s publicist has repeatedly denied.
