Gwyneth Paltrow wore a dress to the LA premiere of her film Country Strong (which I most definitely did not see) back in December 2010 that’s been forever ingrained in my brain’s inner celebrity fashion catalogue: A white, floor-length, long-sleeved, body-hugging Emilio Pucci Spring 2011 gown with an open back that morphs into a leg slit with the aid of a few flimsy laces. It’s one of those unique dresses that stands out in your mind for that exact reason. While it wasn’t necessarily my favorite thing ever (it’s a tad bit trashy, right?), it was certainly memorable.
Also worth noting: This incredibly warm hug between Paltrow and Shana Feste. Photo: Getty
So imagine my surprise/bewilderment when ex-Angel Miranda Kerr showed up to at the Beverly Hilton Hotel’s Golden Globes party last night wearing a remarkably similar design — only this one was black and the laces were even more miniscule. At first I was all, WHOA: Call a lawyer; Pucci’s got an Adventures in Copyright on its hands! But then I realized, DOUBLE WHOA: Kerr’s dress was also made by Pucci, a full three and a half years later. According to Red Carpet Fashion Awards, the scantily-sided black dress is from the Italian house’s Pre-Fall 2014 collection.
No offense to Pucci, but doesn’t it seem a little repetitive to be showing pretty much the same dress only a few years apart? Particularly when the original was such a standout look? Reprising a theme from 2011 can hardly be considered a retrospective at this point. And also, why hasn’t Miranda Kerr mind-catalogued every single outfit goddess Gwyneth has ever worn to avoid such humiliating incidents like this from happening, hmmmmmm?
Seriously though, whose skimpy Pucci look do you prefer: Paltrow’s or Kerr’s?
