New York Fashion Week has come and gone, so that means it’s time to take a closer look at the shoes (we already did coats here, if you missed it). Oh, the glorious shoes. And good news for our feet come fall: Designers churned out mostly practical styles — there were a lot of flats and chunky heels that looked promising in terms of causing minimal pain. Of course, there were stilettos, though they were definitely in the minority (but very pretty when they made an appearance, see Narciso Rogdriguez and Rodarte).
In terms of trends, knee- and thigh-high boots are going to rule, most notably those exaggerated riding numbers at Alexander Wang (dare we declare these the shoe of the season?). There were plenty of oxfords and Creeper-inspired silhouettes as well, popping up at Proenza Schouler, Helmut Lang and The Row, whose chain-embellished derbys were perfection. Cobalt was big, too, again at Proenza, along with Suno and Reed Krakoff. The T-strap is also bubbling up, with best in show going to J.Crew and its wonderful black-and-white zigzag motif. Marc Jacobs also deserves a shout-out here, specifically for those silver-trimmed ostrich ankle boots. Wow.
